Stanley NO. 813 Ratchet Brace

In their 1929 catalog, Stanley described this as the No. 813 Box Ratchet Brace. It had a ball bearing chuck, universal jaws, a metal clad ball bearing head, a Cocobolo wood head and handle and it was nickel plated.

The No. 813 Brace was available in an 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″ and 16″ sweep.

According to the catalog this new brace was the finest and strongest Ratchet Bit Brace combining: durability, ease of handling and improved operation.

The Ratchet is a new style of construction where the operative parts are practically indestructible.

The jaws are machined and hardened to assure perfect centering of bits and drills and are of a shorter length to prevent bending of ends.

The ball bearing chuck will hold round shank and taper shank end drills up to one-half inch.

Two sets of pawls give 16 divisions in one revolution of the pawl gear, preventing any back turning, and making a very sensitive easy operating ratchet.

Paul gear and pawl operate at right angles to the rotable thrust and insure great strength with no possibility of slipping. Pawl operating springs are made of phosphor bronze.
